Faced with adversaries that had gotten too big for their britches, Taxslayer was entering tax season alongside opposing brands that were showering customers with the promise of borderline unattainable incentives. At the same time, these rivals were also slapping unnecessary bells and whistles on their products. In classic underdog style, Taxslayer undermined the efforts from competitors by being refreshingly honest with the audience. Whether we were helping our fans remember what they do and don’t need in order to do their taxes, or we were openly roasting the ridiculous giveaways in the category, every communication had an undisputable air of candor and confidence.
